Mt. Calvary E.C.O.G.I.C was started by the late Bishop and Founder of the Early Churches of God In Christ in the early 1920’s. Bishop Samuel Moore, also known as ” Daddy Moore”, was a charter member of Samaria church in Addyston, Ohio where he then set up and established the Early Church of God In Christ. Several years later he then moved toward the west end and started his church on 8th street and Melvin Avenue where the name “Bethesda” was chosen and later was changed to Mt. Calvary Early Church Of God In Christ. The church had to be moved to its new location because of the flood. The church found two plots of land, those lots were purchased by the church and construction began in 1956.
The membership grew, people were being saved, sanctified and filled with the Holy Ghost. The sick was being healed, the blind had received there sight, demons were cast out and many accounts of miracle works wrought under the Apostolic anointing. Bishop Moore only saw the lower part of the church completed where they had their services. While working on the baptismal pool and the upper level of the church Bishop Moore died in 1961. The work continued and the upper part was finished.
The work of the ministry continued to go on under the pastorate of the late Elder James Simmons for over 20 years, Elder Squire Bush for 15 years, Elder Clarence Norton for 9 years, Jr. Bishop J.T. McCauley for 2 years and our current pastor, Elder Daren Ward Sr.. Since 2006, Pastor Ward has carried on the ministries of the church with the purpose of building the kingdom and spreading the word of God.
